Regional trends affecting vulnerable populations with UNICEF EAPRO

Context and Challenges

The UNICEF East Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) wanted a deeper understanding of emerging regional challenges that disproportionately affect children and other vulnerable populations. Timely evidence was needed to inform programme decisions and anticipate future risks.

Our Role

EAPRO commissioned Research for Purpose to deliver in depth reports on regional trends with recommendations. We tracked public engagement across a wide range of topics, from education, emergencies and child rights to youth skills, climate change, child online safety, gender equality, poverty, philanthropy, and stateless and migrant children.
In early 2025, for example, we identified a regional spike in pollution as a growing concern. We explored its implications for children and recommended interventions to protect their health in the immediate and longer term.

Results

The reports informed UNICEF’s campaign priorities in the region as well as its internal decision making. Strategic planning at EAPRO now draws more systematically on data, so that interventions align with the most pressing needs of children across East Asia and the Pacific.
